Papillon is still alive. The latest update was in July 2025. He is still being held in the Casteller facility for “problem bears”, and is the last bear remaining there after bear JJ4 was transferred to a more open sanctuary. Protesters were gathering outside Casteller and calling for Papillon’s release in late July.

This bear has articulating extremities and neck. Is he still alive? I want to tell my grandson’s about him and am hoping that he loves life in Bulgaria.
